Alameda County Schools Gearing Up for Mock Presidential Primary Election

Got civics? Just because some high school students aren’t yet eligible to vote, doesn’t mean they can’t have a voice in the election. MyVote California and the California Campaign for the Civic Mission of Schools are tapping into the excitement of the 2008 presidential primary election.

High school students have a chance to learn about the candidates and issues, and gain firsthand lessons on the power of voting and how government and politics affect every part of their lives. Students will vote for their choice in a mock election to be held on Jan. 28-29, one week before California’s Presidential Primary Election.

Nine Alameda County high schools have already signed up. OUR GOAL IS FOR ALL 75 HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE COUNTY TO PARTICIPATE!! The Alameda County schools participating so far are:

  • Alameda Community Learning Center, Alameda (charter)
  • Oakland Military Institute, Oakland (charter)
  • Irvington High School, Fremont USD
  • John F. Kennedy High School, Fremont USD
  • St. Joseph Notre Dame, Oakland (private)
  • Business and Information Technology, Oakland USD
  • Piedmont High School, Piedmont USD
  • Foothill High School, Pleasanton USD
  • Arroyo High School, San Lorenzo USD
