County Employees Donate 29 Pints of Blood
Hayward –The Alameda County Office of Education’s annual blood drive brought in a total of 29 new pints of blood, which can help up to 87 patients at hospitals in the East Bay.
The blood drive attracted donors from ACOE and nearby county offices, with some donors who have been donating blood for more than 30 years, and others donating for the first time.
According to The American Red Cross, every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood, yet only 5 percent of people eligible to donate blood actually do so.
“We appreciate the commitment it took from you and your entire organization.Your upport of the blood drive helped ensure that there is an adequate
blood supply for our local hospitals, and of course, our friends, family members, and neighbors in need,†said Kelley Dayton of the American Red Cross, who worked with ACOE’s Shaheen Mohammed to coordinate the blood drive.
The annual blood drive is just part of ACOE’s effort to help employees stay healthy and be aware of current health issues.
In November, that effort continues with a health screening that is open to the public. Participants will be able to have several screenings (for a fee), including checking total cholesterol, glucose levels, bone density (without radiation), body fat, resting metabolic rate, and also get vaccines for influenza and pneumonia. Check back soon for more information on how to attend this important event.
